Hayley at Plymouth City Council

Pluss - Hayley at workHayley Smith works for Plymouth City Council in their First Stop Customer Services Team.

Pluss supported Hayley to achieve accredited pre-NVQ work skills training to develop skills. This was further established by Hayley undertaking work experiences to put the acquired skills and knowledge in to practice.

Hayley undertook a placement at Royal Mail where she built up her skills and confidence in her abilitiesl. Paid work didn’t happen at this stage, but not to be put off, Hayley spent time with her Employment Consultant, Gez, looking at her skills, aspirations and areas for improvement. This resulted in an action plan that included undertaking a wider range of work experience types to use Hayley’s transferable skills in different settings.

Hayley gained a work experience in 2009, working for Plymouth City Council (PCC) in the First Stop Customer Services Team, as an adviser.

A Pluss job coahc supported Hayley and Plymouth City Council to help develop Hayley’s skills to the standard required.

Pluss is also providing and supporting Hayley towards achieving an NVQ 2 in Customer Care to further formalise Hayley’s skills and experience.

As a result, Plymouth City Council have just offered Hayley 16 hours paid employment as a Customer Services Adviser.

Customer Services Manager, Michelle, commented. “It has been a pleasure to give Hayley this opportunity, she has worked hard to achieve it”.

Hayley said “It has taken me some years to get paid work, but it’s been worth the wait, I am over the moon. I could not have done it without Pluss’ training and support”.

Gez Shrushole, Hayley’s employment consultant said “It is down to Hayley’s hard work that she has achieved paid employment. Hayley has always been a conscientious person who deserves this opportunity”.

About Pluss

Pluss is a Social Enterprise that supports thousands of people with disabilities and other disadvantages into employment each year. We do this through a range of specialist, local employment services and through direct employment within our own Social Enterprises.

We passionately believe that our services should always include those furthest from the labour market and offer specialist employment support to people with a learning disability, mental health issues, physical disabilities and long term health issues.

We also believe that people with disabilities make excellent employees and are committed to directly employing disabled people; around half of our 500 strong workforce has a disability.

Pluss operates throughout South West England and West Yorkshire, with partner Social Enterprises across the UK. We currently develop , deliver and manage a range of innovative employability programmes on behalf of DWP (Work Choice prime contractor), a number of local authorities, NHS, European Social Fund and the Skills Funding Agency.

Pluss is owned by Devon County Council, Plymouth City Council, Somerset Council and Torbay Council.
